If you’re anything like us here at Post Launch and live your life for all things nerdy, or just haven’t been living under a rock for the past seven years, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with the video game streaming platform, Twitch.

Twitch launched in 2011 and has taken the world by storm with endless amounts of gaming content. Some good, some…not so good, but that’s for you to decide. You might be asking yourself how in the world does someone get rich playing video games? Well, it all starts with Twitch community outreach.

How to Build a Twitch Following

To be a successful Twitch streamer and to eventually start making some money, you need to be able to produce quality video content. Just like in every other aspect of SEO marketing, quality is key. Quality content is even better when you have an audience to watch it, which is why community outreach and networking are a must if you plan on becoming the next “Ninja” or “Hafu.”

Being present and interacting with Twitch communities is the best way to grow your following. Set a streaming schedule and make sure to follow it the best that you can. If for some reason you can’t make the scheduled time, throw out an update via social media letting your Twitch followers know you won’t make it.

Consistency is one of the biggest factors in growing your following. It allows your audience to interact with you on a regular basis and get to know you on a deeper level as a content creator and Twitch personality. Here are some more tips to consider:

It’s time to get social

Twitch community outreach via social media is a great way to get to know your audience and attract the right kind of people to enjoy your content. Facebook and Twitter are two great resources to use when looking to expand your Twitch following. Twitter specifically seems to be the best platform to use when telling your audience you are going live and to connect with different groups using the appropriate hashtags.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different hashtags. Community outreach means reaching out into different spaces and testing the waters. You never know the awesome people you can find by going out of your comfort zone. Try using things like #SupportSmallStreamers  and #TwitchFam when Tweeting.

Work together with Discord

Another great way to interact with your Twitch communities is to join different Discord groups. There are thousands of great channels out there that are specifically made for Twitch beginners. I have come across so many great people online who are willing to help new streamers get their name out there.

Do some research and see what groups would be best for your personality, and make sure you are giving as much as you get when it comes to helping out fellow streamers. Even simply lurking on another person’s channel while you are busy doing other things can be extremely helpful to many streamers. Twitch requires a certain number of viewers on average for someone to reach the Affiliate and Partner level, so any time you spend hanging out on other people’s channels is much appreciated!

Back to the basics with YouTube

YouTube and Google have been best buds for a long time now. Because of that, YouTube has become an incredible source for marketing. Google values video content over anything else out there and will show that to searchers first. Learning the basics YouTube will take you far in the streaming world.

If you take time to create a highlight video after every stream and export it to YouTube, you are doing yourself a major favor. This act alone will get you more visibility and will allow people to find your stream through even more sources.
