Forbes reports that 64% of employees have admitted to visiting non-work related sites during each work day. And can you blame them? Sometimes we all need a little break from the humdrum of typing, emails, meetings, and whatever else you do during your nine to five. Some even say that a little break from work can improve your productivity. So, if you’re in need of a break from your work, try some of these Internet productivity-killing sites.
Need a Bit of a Distraction from Your Everyday Routine?
Mashable
This first site is a conglomerate of a ton of articles about the latest news, hottest sports stars, your favorite movie that’s coming out, video games, and more. The home page and menu are easy to navigate, so you may find yourself clicking through their interesting content, and then look at your clock to find out a whole hour has already passed by.
Cat Bounce
Try Cat Bounce. Because why wouldn’t you want to spend some time making cuddly kittens bounce around your computer monitor? So simple, yet such a distraction from Internet productivity.
Buzzfeed
Buzzfeed is the obvious choice for a workday distraction. It features lists and articles about everything from your middle school nostalgia to beauty hacks to easy recipes you can make with kids. The possibilities are endless. If you don’t frequent Buzzfeed’s website or YouTube channel every now and then, you’re probably lying.
Do Nothing for 2 Minutes
The name says it all. This relaxing distracting website allows you to sit at your computer for two minutes—and literally do nothing. You get to listen to some cool beach waves sounds and watch the clock tick down from two minutes. If you move your mouse or touch your keyboard, the clock starts over. It’s a mini meditation sesh for your workday.
The Oatmeal
The site publishes a bunch of random, easy-to-consume and cute comics with a dark sarcastic sense of humor. You may be here for a while scrolling through their comics. You’ve been warned.
But No, Seriously—Get Back to Work.
For those of you who are a little more responsible than the rest of us when it comes to Internet productivity, you can restrict your hours of distraction by using an Internet restriction app. Browser add-ons like the ones listed below can help you get back to work.
StayFocusd
StayFocusd is a self-control Internet blocker that you can add to Google Chrome. You choose which time-wasting sites you want to block, and this add-on will limit time you’re spending on them. Once your allotted time is up, StayFocusd will block that website for the rest of the day.
WasteNoTime
WasteNoTime is similar to StayFocusd, but more in-depth with its productivity controls. You can better customize the way you manage which sites you spend time on. WasteNoTime reports which websites you browse the most. It provides different features to give yourself limited Internet access or to block certain sites after you spend too much time on them.
The bonus? It’s available for Safari as well as Google Chrome
